Graphic Design for Apparel - Example of a graphic design for an apparel project I've been working on for Kapulei Designs LLC.  Created the illustrations using Adobe Illustrator CS6 and Wacom Cintiq tablet.  Finished off the design in Adobe Photoshop CS6.  Design was actually placed on a t-shirt.  This piece was included in the portfolio to demonstrate the use of figure and ground (positive/negative space) in a composition as well as gestalt psychology.  The perception is that the Japanese letters appear to either blend in or emerge from the blackness of the background and the eyes can go around the composition in a circle to the typography below.  The cherry flowers are "wispy" to drive home the delicate meaning of the composition.  The serif font typeface used was to get attention to the message (for English speaking audiences) where as the Japanese letters which mean the same thing as the English version of the message below is meant to be "subliminal".
